Coffee shops in the Loop? Say less!
Looking for a good cup of coffee or a cozy spot to study between classes? Whether you need a caffeine boost before your next lecture, a place to get some homework done, or just somewhere to hang out with friends, the Loop has plenty of coffee shops to explore. Here are my top five coffee shops around DePaul’s Loop Campus that are worth checking out!
5. Beatrix Market

A DePaul Loop classic: Beatrix Market! Located on the first floor of the Lewis Center at 23 E. Jackson Boulevard, it’s an especially convenient option when you’re already on campus.
Beatrix Market is great when you need a little bit of everything. You can grab coffee or a pastry, pick up something from the hot food bar, or get pizza when you’re craving a more filling meal. It’s a familiar stop for students and an easy option when you don’t want to spend your whole break walking somewhere else to eat.
4. Bagel & Bean

If you’re a bagel person, Bagel & Bean deserves a spot on your list. Located at 111 W. Jackson Boulevard, it’s a convenient option for Loop students looking for breakfast, coffee, or a quick lunch. The shop offers fresh, made-to-order bagels and handcrafted coffee.
You can choose from a variety of bagels, pair yours with your favorite spread, or grab a sandwich when you need something more substantial. They also have sweet coffee options and refreshing drinks, making it a good stop whether you’re starting your morning or taking a break from studying.
3. Cafecito

Coffee and a really good sandwich? Say less! Cafecito is a Cuban coffeehouse and cafe serving Cuban-inspired food, pressed sandwiches, and specialty coffee. If you’re hungry between classes, it’s a great place to grab lunch without having to choose between getting something to eat and getting your caffeine fix.
The space is on the smaller, cozier side, which can make it feel welcoming for a casual lunch or a study date with a friend. I’d put this one on your list when you want something more filling than just a pastry and coffee.
2. Cafe Deko

Cafe Deko is one of those places where you walk in and immediately want to look around. Located in Printer’s Row at 715 S. Dearborn Street, this cafe has a gorgeous, vintage-inspired interior that feels like stepping into another time. With its elegant decor and cozy atmosphere, it’s a nice change of scenery when you’re tired of studying in the same classroom or library.
It’s also a great option if you want to settle in with a coffee and get some work done. Whether you’re catching up on assignments or just taking a break between classes, Cafe Deko makes the experience feel a little more special.
1. Groundswell Coffee Roasters

If you’re looking for a coffee spot that’s a little different from your usual cafe, Groundswell is definitely worth checking out. Located inside the historic Fine Arts Building on Michigan Avenue, it’s more than just a place to grab a coffee. The building itself is part of the experience, with beautiful architecture, artistic details, and a creative atmosphere.
One of the coolest things about this building is its historic Venetian Court, which spans from the fourth floor toward the roof. You can also ride one of Chicago’s historic manually operated elevators! If you’re lucky, you might even hear someone playing the piano while you’re there. Imagine studying with a coffee in hand while live piano music plays in the background. It doesn’t get much more unique than that!
